Interactive answers
The agent can answer with an interactive view — sliders and a chart that follows them, a mechanism to step through, a comparison, a quiz — built on the open A2UI standard.
Some answers are easier to use than to read. When you ask what a job costs, how a transaction log works, or which of two options fits, the agent can answer with a small interactive view in the chat, next to its explanation:
- Calculators: sliders, numbers and switches, with totals and a chart that update as you move them.
- Step-throughs: a process or mechanism shown one step at a time, with Back and Next.
- Comparisons: options side by side, with the agent's verdict.
- Charts and tables: bar, line, area and pie charts, and tables with formatted numbers.
- Learning: quizzes that mark your answers and explain them, and flashcards.
Nothing you change in a view is sent anywhere until you press one of its buttons. Moving a slider or answering a quiz question happens on your computer, and images in a view never load with what you typed.
Asking the agent from a view
A view's buttons can ask the agent something, such as "Explain the questions I got wrong". Pressing one sends an ordinary message from you, with what the view knows (your answers, the values you set) attached for the agent. The message shows as a small Sent from … chip that you can open to see exactly what was sent. The agent answers like any other message, often with a new view.
Buttons that send are available once the answer has finished. In the shared-session viewer, a view still works locally but its buttons don't send.
If part of a view can't be shown
The view checks everything the agent wrote against the components it knows. The agent sends a view as a few updates, and an update with a mistake in it isn't applied, so you see the view as it was before that update. A line under the view says how many problems there were. Details lists them; Ask the agent to fix it sends the list to the agent so it can correct the view.
Turning it off
Settings → Appearance → Interactive answers. With it off, the agent answers in text, tables and diagrams. It applies to new sessions; views already in your chats keep working.
The standard behind it
Interactive answers use A2UI v0.9.1, the open Agent-to-UI protocol. The agent writes standard A2UI messages, and Fabric renders them with its own look:
- The basic catalog, as the spec defines it: text, images, rows and columns, lists, cards, tabs, dialogs, buttons, text fields, checkboxes, choice pickers, sliders and date pickers, with the spec's functions for formatting and validation.
- Fabric's catalog (
https://agents.fabric.pro/a2ui/v0.9/fabric_catalog.json): the basic catalog plus Chart, Stat, Callout, Steps, Quiz, Flashcards, Timeline, Compare, Diagram, Code and Table, and acalcfunction for formulas. It is an ordinary A2UI custom catalog, so a view written for the basic catalog looks the same in any A2UI client.
Views that MCP servers provide with their tools are a different, complementary standard: MCP Apps. Both kinds appear in the same chat.
